Before play, the microphones captured Khawaja indulging in singing the West Indies’ official cricket anthem, ‘Rally ‘Round the West Indies’, before Australia’s own anthem.
While batting, he was heard laughing with a West Indies player about one of his shots, saying: “I don’t have as much control over that as you may think”.
The recording also show several exchanges between Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne as the pair built a 95-run partnership on day one.
Among the more priceless moments recorded, however, were Khawaja’s reactions to good deliveries.
“Oh mama!” he shouted at one point. “That’s a nice nut. That’s a nice nut.”
Another ball nipped back as Khawaja shouldered arms, making it a tight leave.
In response, Khawaja was heard saying: “Nice leave, Uzzie. Nice leave.”
