Baker sends seven to Bathurst hoping to boost premiership chances

Bjorn Baker’s Warwick Farm stable is sitting fourth on the NSW trainers’ premiership and holds the key to Tuesday’s Bathurst meeting.

The Baker camp will be represented by seven runners with many fancied to land the cash. But the TAB market could go against the grain in race six where he has the short-priced favourite Sinaloa and Wolf Queen at double-figure odds.

Wolf Queen has strong prospects of lowering the colours of her stablemate with the mare having won two of her first three starts before spelling.

She was then unplaced in three runs during her next preparation but has run home nicely in both barrier trials since to suggest she can bounce back to form first-up with Mitchell Bell to navigate.

Sinaloa was ridden way back in the field in a stronger race at Warwick Farm and hit the line well to be beaten under two lengths. She had won at Hawkesbury two starts beforehand and continues to race consistently.

The Baker stable could prove a thorn in the side of fellow Warwick Farm trainer Gary Portelli and his favourite Nonshalaant earlier in the meeting.

Baker has unraced stablemates Sweysive and Don Pedro who are hard in the market having trialled impressively.

Sweysive has trialled on five occasions and his seconds in Warwick Farm and Hawkesbury trials have been full of merit. Don Pedro came home solidly in a Hawkesbury trial and any market moves on either of these debutants should prove significant.

Nonshalaant remains the one to beat after recording four placings from five starts, and he could finally break his duck.

The gelding has been running in stronger races than this and despite not having raced since August was kept up to the mark with a great trial after sitting three-wide and finishing off well behind the winner who then scored on debut at Newcastle.

Baker also has stablemates in the third race of the day with Invest in Love, which has firmed into favouritism, and Shezanalister.

Invest in Love has plenty of speed and will be in this race for a long way while Shezanalister should lead and will find this an easier assignment than her last start sixth at Newcastle.
