Bombers appoint new CEO after church boss’ controversial 24-hour exit: reports

Essendon has reportedly appointed former West Coast Eagles football boss Craig Vozzo as its new CEO.

Vozzo served as the Eagles’ list manager before becoming the football boss in 2013, then moved to the club’s executive at the close of 2021.

Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary reported on Thursday that Vozzo had won the race to be the Bombers’ new CEO.

Vozzo will replace predecessor Andrew Thorburn in the role, with Thorburn’s stint at the helm short-lived.

Thorburn quit the top job at the Bombers barely 24 hours after being appointed, with the 57-year-old’s role as chairman of the controversial City on a Hill church, which holds anti-gay and anti-abortion stances acting as, the club said, “direct contradiction to our values as a club”.

It has since been reported Thorburn has hired legal counsel regarding his departure.
