Richmond star Monique Conti has been voted the best player in the AFLW by her peers, taking out the AFL Players’ Association’s Most Valuable Player award.
Conti edged out previous winner Jasmine Garner and Western Bulldogs captain Ellie Blackburn to take home the award.
At 22 years of age, Conti became the youngest player in AFLW history to win the prestigious vote.
Furphy has made the commitment to provide equal support to its AFL and AFLW teams. Don’t support the AFLW? Unbelievable.
Earlier in the week, Conti finished just two votes behind Brisbane Lions midfielder Ally Anderson in the AFLW best and fairest count.
Conti was surprisingly snubbed in round eight of that count, failing to receive votes for he 30-possession game against Carlton despite being voted the best player on the ground by both coaches.
Wednesday night’s award makes Conti just the second Richmond player to receive the award, the other being three-time Norm Smith medallist Dustin Martin.
In other awards on the night, Adelaide Crows star Chelsea Randall was voted Most Courageous Player for the fifth time.
Randall also received the Best Captain Award, coming out ahead of Melbourne star Daisy Pearce and 2021 winner Ellie Blackburn.
Mature-age Richmond recruit Eilish Sheerin was voted the Best First Year Player ahead of Hawthorn’s Jasmine Fleming, while Sydney up-and-comer Alexia Hamilton won the Education and Training Excellence Award for her commitment to studies away from the field.
