The Socceroos prepare to kick off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against France in Qatar on Wednesday morning.

Australia’s first match at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah begins at 6am, AEDT, so people can tune in before work or school.

But if you feel like getting out there, here are some venues across the city to take in the action:

Federation Square

The iconic Melbourne location opposite Flinders Street station will be airing the match against France from 6am.

Yarraville Pop Up Park

In the inner-west near the Sun Theatre, the match will be screened at the popular park for free and is a family-friendly, alcohol-free zone.

The Sporting Globe in Richmond

This Richmond pub will open its doors early to allow patrons to tune in live to Australia’s opening match, but bookings are recommended. They also have other venues across the suburbs that will show the game.

Classic Cinemas

Only five minutes away from St Kilda, the Elsternwick movie theatre will be screening the match live for $10. Admission includes a small popcorn.

Sports Bar at Crown

The bar at Crown Casino will also be showing the match, along with live cricket, NBA for those who like to multi-task.

The Castle Hotel

The North Melbourne venue will be pumping out $10 Furphy for all Socceroo games, and will be airing the match at 6am.
