Don’t give up on the Broncos … yet

In his weekly Six Tackles with Gus podcast, the one and only Phil Gould had his say on whether there are happier days ahead for Michael Maguire and the Brisbane Broncos.

Knights chance their hand

It ended with an error, but the Knights just showed something a little different in attack. Trying things can lead to errors, but it can also lead to tries. That’s exactly what Newcastle need.

Garrick burns Schiller – try for Manly

That was far too easy for Reuben Garrick. He got past direct opponent James Schiller ease. The result is a try for new fullback Tolu Koula. If I was Manly I’d be setting up as many Garrick v Schiller battles as possible after that effort. Manly lead 6-0 after 14 minutes

Hopoate, Frizell ruled out

It’s bad news for both teams. Manly fullback Lehi Hopoate and Knights prop Tyson Frizell were both ruled to have suffered Category 1 head knocks and won’t take any further part in this match.

For Manly, Tolu Koula will move to fullback and Ben Trbojevic into the centres. A massive blow.

It’s just as serious for a Knights side that was already a bit light-on for props.

Hopoate try denied – off for HIA

Manly, the team showing the most enterprise, are the first into their opponents in-goal area, but Lehi Hopoate was unable to ground the ball correctly. A lucky break there for the Knights.

In more bad news for Manly, Hopoate is off for a HIA after hitting his head on the ground.

Knights prop Tyson Frizell is also off for a HIA.

Not league, but worth watching

Check out this epic rally from the French Open last night. Magnifique.

Game on

The Knights get first use of the ball. The first set was your standard runs for yardage and now it is Manly’s turn. Drawing the first error from the opponent is always an interesting sideshow.

Game time nears

We’re getting close now. With the season hitting the halfway mark, you can’t help but think another Newcastle loss will make their already tough task of reaching the finals out of reach.

As for Manly, they want to remain in the top eight and keep pressure on those teams above them.
