Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis stormed onto the pitch to remonstrate with coach Nuno Espirito Santo after Sunday’s Premier League draw against Leicester City.
Forest were pegged back by a late Facundo Buonanotte strike at the City Ground, and while the 2-2 draw secured the host’s spot in Europe for the first time in 29 years, it also lost them ground in the race for a Champions League place.
A visibly frustrated Marinakis made his feelings known afterwards, heading down to the pitch and having words with Nuno following the final whistle.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville called it “scandalous” in commentary for Sky Sports.
“I think what the Forest owner has just done over on the pitch at the City Ground is absolutely scandalous,” Neville said ahead of Liverpool‘s game against Arsenal. “If I was Nuno I’d be going to have a very strong word with him because that is a scandal.
“You’ve just qualified for a European competition. Where that club’s been, to be remonstrating [with Nuno] on the pitch in front of the club’s fans is an absolute joke.”
Forest, having been third for much of a fairytale campaign, have dropped to seventh in the Premier League, but are only a point behind fifth-placed Chelsea with two games to play. Forest play Chelsea on the last day of the season.
