Europa League LIVE: Ange’s Spurs face era-defining quarter-final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt

Kaua Santos involved again!

Kaua Santos again called into action to repel a dangerous-looking cross from Mathys Tel. The loose ball doesn’t find a Spurs body, however, so Frankfurt escape.

They’re growing into this match, the visitors…

Good few minutes for Spurs

Now a corner for the visiting side… Lucas Bergvall tasked with the delivery. Looks good off the boot but cleared from the six-yard box, and Frankfurt’s attempt at a quickfire counter-attack fizzles out.

Spurs continue to attack and drive through the middle via Bentancur, who finds Solanke in the box… he tried to find room to shoot but just couldn’t with so many bodies around him and gives the ball away, but Tottenham wins it back again.

And now they have another corner from the same side as the last one… comes to nought.

Frankfurt building pressure

More danger at the back compels Rodrigo Bentancur to put the ball out for a corner. So another set-piece for Frankfurt, from the right… can’t quite find a target, but they win back the ball and keep it. And keep it alive for a couple of minutes… until they miscue a pass and it goes out for a goal kick.

They’ve been equal to Frankfurt’s pressure so far, Spurs.

Tel – best shot of the match!

Tel! So close!

Cracking shot from the Frenchman to force a terrific save from Kaua Santos, the Frankfurt goalkeeper, who was on fire last week.

His save concedes a corner, Porro will take this… headed clear by the home side.

Another shot on target for the hosts

Second corner for the home side, again taken care of by the Tottenham defence. I don’t want to tempt fate but they’ve made a relatively assured start to this game… and now Spurs’ press has forced Frankfurt, who recycled the corner, back into their own half.

Their move ends with substitute Fares Chaibi getting a header on goal following a cross from the right-hand side but again, Vicario collects with ease.

Tel scuffs a good chance

Best opening so far for Spurs after a cutback from Brennan Johnson down the right… Mathys Tel arrives in the right spot but doesn’t make proper connection and the ball trickles out for a goal kick. Not an easy chance to take, but a chance nonetheless.

Good and bad for Frankfurt…

Oh no… a long ball from Frankfurt’s goalkeeper has split the Tottenham centre-backs and put Hugo Ekitiké one-on-one with Vicario! Van de ven saves the day with a lunging tackle and in any case, Ekitiké seemed to handle the ball, so had he scored it wouldn’t have counted.

Meanwhile, the home side have been forced into an early change, and it’s a big one: former German international Mario Götze has been forced off with a hamstring injury! Fares Chaibi is his replacement.

That could be a key moment here…

The tension continues

First true incision into the box by Spurs comes to nothing after James Maddison unleashes Destiny Udogie down the left… Udogie’s cutback to the penalty spot finds precisely nobody. But it was good work to get him free, I guess. More of that sort of thing needed with a better finishing touch.

Solid start by both sides

Frankfurt has looked a little better going forward, as you’d expect this early in a home tie, but Spurs have acquitted themselves well so far in terms of defensive actions. No visible signs of nerves or intimidation from this raucous atmosphere. Yet.

First shot is on target

…but it’s a tame one from Jean Bahoya of Eintracht Frankfurt, rolling into the safe hands of Guglielmo Vicario.

Spurs have started OK, but now the home side has a free kick on the left… headed clear for a corner kick, the first of the match. So there’s a bit of sustained pressure they have to deal with now.

Nathaniel Brown to deliver… cleared by Spurs but Mario Götze collects and shoots! Again, saved by Vicario.
