‘Thrilthorpe’ kicks his second

The Suns have been on the money to open this match winning a number of key battles and getting the better of the forward attacks thanks to some smart passing and accurate goal kicks.

But this Crows group is far more resilient than previous years and they set up Riley Thilthorpe for a mark on the siren and a goal after it.

Fans to experience tougher security at the MCG

Body searches will be ramped up for football fans at the MCG after security staff failed to stop two men from allegedly carrying loaded guns into Thursday night’s Carlton-Collingwood blockbuster.

Melbourne Cricket Club chief executive Stuart Fox said AI-powered technology had detected items of concern, but staff had failed to follow up with a thorough search.

The way MCG officials ramp up security will be seen at Saturday’s clash between Richmond and Brisbane Lions – the first match at the venue since more than 82,000 fans attended the Blues-Magpies clash.

“Our security screening units identified items of concern and further investigation was required, our initial internal investigation identified a breakdown in the thoroughness of the secondary and manual screening process,” Fox said on Friday after Thursday night’s drama at the ’G.

“As a result, we will be increasing the extensiveness of the secondary manual security process and patrons may experience slight delays as they attend upcoming events.”

King kicks the opener

The Suns have dominated the field position to start the match and it has led to Ben King pulling in a strong mark 20m from goal.

He went back and put it through. There is some frustration the umpire didn’t make Matt Rowell take the preceding free kick after stopping play but what’s done is done now.
