Day two action
Cloudy skies on day two after thunderstorm wipeout
By Selma Milovanovic
The Australian Open is set for a manic and mega Monday after thunderstorms wiped out much of the opening day’s play on the outside courts.
As Marc McGowan and Sophie Aubrey report, play was suspended for more than six hours on all but three of Melbourne Park’s courts on Sunday, while technological failures and lengthy queues also made a tough day for fans worse.
The saving grace for the tournament is the move last year to a Sunday start with the opening round played over three days.
Matches were continuing late into Sunday night to clear the backlog after players returned to court just before 6.30pm, but event officials rescheduled others for Monday.
Melbourne’s sky today is cloudy, and it looks to be so for the rest of the day.
The forecast top temperature is 27 degrees, with a 20 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon between 4pm and 6pm. Let’s hope it stays dry so tennis fans are not disrupted.

Welcome
By Josefine Ganko
Good morning, tennis fans. My name is Josefine Ganko, and I’ll be your Australian Open blogger for day 2, covering all the action on this (mercifully) milder day at Melbourne Park.
The first matches of the day kick off at 11am AEDT, but until then, we’ll bring you everything you might have missed yesterday, and what you need to know about today’s match-ups.
It’s set to be a cracking day of tennis, so let’s get into it.
