Amorim unsure if Rashford played final Utd game

Ruben Amorim has admitted he does not know if Marcus Rashford has played his last game for Manchester United as the forward continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Rashford was once again absent from the matchday squad as United reached the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday after beating Arsenal 5-4 on penalties at Emirates Stadium despite having Diogo Dalot sent off just after the hour mark.

The 27-year-old is keen on leaving Old Trafford and has attracted interest from a number of clubs including AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund while sources have told ESPN he is also open to a move to Spain should a suitable offer arrive.

Asked whether Rashford would now not be seen in a United shirt again, Amorim told a news conference on Sunday: “I don’t know. We’ll see. He is a player for Manchester United. We’ll see. He has to work.

“He has to represent his club and he loves his club but I have to make choices. I already spoke about how I make the choices. It is what it is. Let’s continue, let’s see the next game and like I said I have to make a selection.”

Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scored the winning penalty following 120 minutes in which Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring before Gabriel Magalhães in 11 second-half minutes. In between, Dalot was dismissed for a second yellow card offence following a late lunge on Mikel Merino.

“Thankfully the players were there, they fought,” Amorim said. “Sometimes what we talk about before the match is not tactical or technical, it’s this. We have to compete no matter what, no matter what the situation we competed today.

“We deserved to win, Arsenal didn’t deserve to lose but we deserved to win. The way we played, the way we fought was really tough since the beginning. We didn’t have the ball too much but we had control without the ball.”
