England's Hemp, Toone, James out for U.S. game

England have announced their squad for the upcoming international fixtures against the United States and Switzerland, with Lauren James, Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp all set to miss out due to injury.

Manchester City confirmed that Hemp has undergone successful knee surgery, a big blow for coach Sarina Wiegman given the forward’s excellent form that earned her the Women’s Super League (WSL) player of the month for October.

Chelsea star James has been struggling with an ankle injury, while Toone missed Manchester United‘s win over Leicester City with a calf knock she sustained in training.

There are first call-ups for City’s Laura Blindkilde Brown and Leicester’s Ruby Mace, who have previously been a part of England’s under-23 squad.

England play the USWNT at Wembley on Nov. 30, before hosting Switzerland at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on the Dec. 3. The FA announced that over 80,000 tickets have been sold for the clash against the U.S., who claimed Olympic gold in Paris in August.

Emma Hayes’ team will be missing their much vaunted attacking trio of Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman, with all three being handed a rest having dealt with lingering injuries this season, while United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce was called up for the first time.
