Anamoe has avenged his controversial defeat in last year’s Cox Plate with a pulsating victory in the weight-for-age showpiece at The Valley on Saturday.
With the benefit of a splendid James McDonald ride, Anamoe sat one out and one back for the majority of the famous 2040 metre journey before peeling out turning for home to set up a race winning lead.
The victory stretched the James Cummings-trained son of Street Boss’s unbeaten spring campaign to four with his overall record now reading 11 wins from 20 career starts.

“It is a proper Cox Plate and it is a humbling privilege to win it,” Cummings told Channel Seven.
“It’s a humbling experience for me, but I’m just grateful that I can be a part of a horse as great as Anamoe,” he told Seven.
“The truth is he’s just had a gun preparation. A couple of times it hasn’t been plain sailing, but my team have come together in phenomenal fashion.”
Finishing second in the group 1 feature was a gallant I’m Thunderstruck while El Bodegon caught the eye running third.
Now a winner of a remarkable seven Group 1s, Anamoe’s prizemoney earnings rocketed to $9.4m courtesy of the $3m Cox Plate first prize.
