‘So much fight in you’: Touching post-fight moment shows champ’s huge respect for Kambosos

A touching moment after George Kambosos Jr.’s press conference further cemented the underlying respect between himself and Devin Haney.

Haney proved to be victorious once again over Kambosos Jr. at Rod Laver Arena, defeating ‘Ferocious’ via unanimous decision.

It was as valiant an effort Kambosos Jr. could have given as he opened up with a new game plan but simply couldn’t hang with Haney over the 12 rounds.

And as ‘Ferocious’ wrapped up his press conference, Bill Haney emerged from the back of the room to offer his congratulations to Kambosos Jr. and his father, Jim.

“I came to get a picture with you, baby,” Haney said.

Haney was extremely thankful to the Kambosos duo and revealed he and his victorious son had “never studied” an opponent as much as they did for the 29-year-old.

“You got so much fight in you,” Haney said.

“You know I was following you on Instagram. We watched everything that you did. We’ve never studied a fighter as much as we’ve studied you guys. We’ve got the utmost respect for you guys.”

Jim was effusive in his praise for Devin’s ability and admitted all of the pre-fight shenanigans were water under the bridge.

“At the end of the day, everything that leads up to a fight, it’s about the emotion and wanting to win,” Jim said.

“You’ve got a very talented young boy. He’s going to be one of the greatest. Thing is, he’s got George’s number. We don’t have Devin’s.”

Jim was also grateful for the Haney’s honouring the rematch clause and returning down under for the second time in four months.

“Full respect to my man, at the end of the day mate, I’m just so glad that not only did you take the first fight, you came back to Australia and basically gave that fight the respect it needed to come back for a rematch.”

The trio then made their way through the mazy hallways in Rod Laver Arena to Haney’s dressing room for more pictures in a truly classy touch from all involved.
