Superstar gymnast Simone Biles has clinched her second gold in 48 hours in the all-round artistic gymnastics event.
Biles had been neck and neck with her main rival, Brazilian gymnast Rebecca Andrade. They swapped the lead and little separated them after three events.
But Biles’ extraordinary floor routine, with four complicated tumbling passes, bought the crowd to its feet and cemented first place, with Andrade second, and American Sunisa Lee third. Biles did laps of the arena afterwards, flying the US flag.
Earlier this week, the US women’s gymnastics team recaptured in Paris what eluded it in Tokyo: gold.
