The Matildas have been defeated by four-time champions USA to leave their hopes of remaining in Paris hanging by a thread.
The 12th-ranked Australians fell 2-1 to the tournament heavyweights at Stade de Marseille in their crucial final Group B match.
Australia now needs Colombia to beat or draw with Canada in their Group A clash this morning.
