‘Very humbled’: Brad Fittler inducted into Sport Australia Hall of Fame class of 2022

NSW Blues coach and rugby league legend Brad Fittler will be inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2022.

The 50-year-old scored 122 tries in 336 NRL games for the Panthers and Roosters from 1989 to 2004 winning premierships with each club in 1991 and 2002.

He also played a record 31 Origins for the Blues and 40 Tests for the Kangaroos winning a World Cup in his playing days before coaching the Blues to three series wins from five attempts to date.

“I’m very humbled to have received this honour as there are some real Australian legends in this list who achieved great things to promote their sports,” Fittler said in a statement.

“Rugby League has been, and always will be, such a massive part of my life and I am forever grateful for the journey it has taken me on and the opportunities it has provided me.”

Other members of the class of 2022 were Sir George Bedbrook, Catherine Cox, Tanya Harding, Cara Honeychurch, Dr Adrian Hurley, Chris Judd, Karrie Webb, and Mark Webber.

Fittler is already a member of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame, inducted among a host of others in 2018.

ARL Chairman Peter V’landys paid tribute to Fittler’s lifelong commitment to the game of rugby league as both a player, coach and commentator. 

“This is a phenomenal achievement by Brad when you consider that he is now recognised in the illustrious company of Australian sporting icons such as Sir Donald Bradman and Dawn Fraser,” ARLC boss Peter V’landys said.

“He also joins an esteemed group of rugby league players who have received this very honour including Clive Churchill, Wally Lewis, Dally Messenger, Norm Provan, Arthur Beetson, Bob Fulton and current Kangaroos’ coach Mal Meninga.

“We are very proud to have an individual of Brad’s calibre joining the list of Rugby League greats inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.”
