Aiden Tolman, the NRL’s most capped active player, will retire at the end of the season, bringing down the curtain on an illustrious 15 years in the top grade.
The 33-year-old will join fellow Sharks veteran Andrew Fifita in heading for the exit at Cronulla after announcing his decision on Friday morning.
Fifita and Tolman will be celebrated during the Sharks’ final regular season home game against Tolman’s old club, the Bulldogs, at PointsBet Stadium on Saturday night.
The game will be the 315th of Tolman’s career, giving him the honour of the most NRL appearances among all current players ahead of fellow 300-gamers Andrew McCullough (Dragons) and James Tamou (Tigers).
Cronulla handed Tolman a career lifeline last year after he ended his 222-game stint at the Bulldogs, at which he formed a formidable front-row pairing with James Graham.
Tolman left the Storm after the salary cap scandal in 2010 and was a member of the club’s grand final-winning side the previous year. The NRL later stripped the club of its title due to salary cap breaches.
Tolman, who scored his only try of the season during his 300th NRL game in April, is on track to play in his first finals series since 2016 and has already featured in three grand finals.
