Race-by-race tips and preview for Warwick Farm on Wednesday
By Ray Hickson

Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 – 12:45PM FUJITSU GENERAL PLATE (1000 METRES)

5. Divine Glory has the form on the board from a solid debut placing in the Gimcrack on a heavy track. She rallied to get into third after racing handy and with that race experience in the ground she’s the one to beat.

Dangers: 6. Her Excellency really looked the part scoring a runaway trial win at Rosehill recently, showing improvement on her first hit-out. Has to be the danger to her stablemate with just the query on the wet ground. 3. Mexico has had the one trial and it was a sound enough effort at the official 2yo trials running third of six. Didn’t wear blinkers in that gallop but they are on here so he’s one to keep safe. 7. Kata Kapi had a little support in the Gimcrack on debut but didn’t fire beating a few home. Better for it and wouldn’t surprise if she showed something more.
How to play it: Divine Glory WIN; Trifecta 5/3,6,7/3,6,7. Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 – 1:20PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

5. Pungo did quite a good job on debut at Rosehill running into fifth over the 1200m. He was a firmer in betting there and ran up to it, the extra ground should suit and if he handles the conditions is a good chance to feature.

Dangers: 1. Stormy Legend has been placed in five of his eight starts and while he’s yet to place fresh he produced a very nice trial win leading into this to suggest he can run well. Each-way. 7. Parisal is a dual acceptor and while beaten favourite on debut she wasn’t disgraced looping the field and going down by just under a length. Wide draw here but that’s rarely an issue at this starting point. Must be considered. 2. Floating is fitter for two runs back where he’s made good ground on both occasions, the latest he came from last to run second at Newcastle over 1200m. Expect he’ll be running on again.
How to play it: Pungo WIN; Trifecta 5/1,2,7/1,2,7. Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 3 – 1:55PM HOME AFFAIRS @ COOLMORE PLATE (1200 METRES)

12. Kazou could hold the key to this race. It’s unusual to see a Chris Waller horse score a runaway trial win like she did just over a week ago but she did it nicely. Check betting for a pointer but hard to beat on what we’ve seen.
Dangers: 19. Parisal wasn’t disgraced despite going under as favourite behind Shohei at Canterbury. Stays at 1200m if she runs here and gets in light with the claim. 3. Pereille has been favourite at both starts to date for placings here and at Rosehill, both on good tracks. He’s run well so can’t overlook him and if he relishes the ground can be competitive. 7. Tribeca Star has placed in the same two races as Pereille and he’s worth being wary of with Nash Rawiller riding off a wide gate. Each-way claims. How to play it: Kazou WIN. Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 – 2:30PM FURPHY HANDICAP (2400 METRES)

8. Essential Sky jumps quickly in trip from a nice fourth over the Randwick mile a few weeks ago but she is proven up to 2200m on a wet track, albeit out of town. She’s the one on the up in good form and can measure up.
Dangers: 4. Legend Has It has a habit of missing the start but has drawn nicely for a change so if he steps away may not give away as much start as usual. Never in it last time but previous couple of efforts were sound. If things go his way he’s capable of winning. 2. Al Aabir has found form with the step up in distance and chases a hat-trick after a narrow win over 2200m here on the long weekend. Only heavy track run was at a mile and ran OK. 1. Boyszee won over this trip on the heavy three runs back, run down by Lord Desanimaux here after that then a month between runs and up to a good track at Rosehill and was just fair. Entitled to another chance.
How to play it: Essential Sky E/W. Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 5 – 3:05PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

8. Hollywood North looks set to go close second-up on the back of a super return at Rosehill. Found the line strongly from well back and the step to a mile on wet ground is in his favour. Sure to be in the finish.

Dangers: 1. Mayfair Spirit won at Moonee Valley on a heavy track then disappointed there a month ago. Down in class and with the claim isn’t badly treated. Also in the Coonamble Cup but a good chance if he runs here. 2. Casino Mondial is another accepted for the Coonamble Cup, he was eye-catching first-up at Rosehill in the same race as Hollywood North where he ran sixth. Likely improver and has claims. 6. Karmazone produced his best when resuming a month ago at Kembla to score a narrow win coming from last. Since trialled and drops 8kg after the claim.
How to play it: Hollywood North WIN; Trifecta 8/1,2,6/1,2,6. Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 6 – 3:40PM PALACE PIER @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

7. Va Via has some interesting form around her with a heavy track placing behind Joyful Fortune last time out. Only unplaced efforts have been in stakes company and she has the blinkers back on. Any support would be significant.
Dangers: 1. Coco Rox was stakes placed at the Scone carnival and was competitive in two subsequent runs. Like the way she is trialling, draws well it seems and the claim is a plus. One to keep very safe. 6. Shohei had the right run outside the leader and was able to hold off Parisal to score a maiden win at Canterbury on a soft 6. More depth in this race so it will be a good test for her but must be respected. 8. Acappella Sun is lightly raced and her last couple at the provincials on wet tracks have been handy efforts, narrowly beaten on both occasions. Started in the market at this level three runs back so could show up here.
How to play it: Va Via E/W. Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 7 – 4:15PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

9. Camino Real had an easy time of it first-up in a small field at Hawkesbury under a big weight. She was a little costly last time in but with that win under her belt she’ll be well equipped for the wet track and can win again.

Dangers: 7. Don’tforgetmonica had a freshen up before a solid placing in the Panorama at Bathurst. Only heavy track run was forgivable, any improvement would be in her favour and she should be running on strongly. 13. Vivid Flash disappointed second-up as favourite at Rosehill after appearing to have every chance. She has form around Camino Real on a wet track so is entitled to another chance. 1. More Secrets wasn’t far away when second-up at Canterbury on a soft 6, though had a soft enough run from an inside gate. Wide alley may not be against her depending on the pattern so keep an eye on that.
How to play it: Camino Real WIN; Trifecta 9/1,7,13/1,7,13. Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 8 – 4:50PM NEW TAB APP GLOAMING STAKES (1600 METRES)

2. Promitto is going to relish getting back onto a wet track after tackling the Golden Rose and its lead up races, where he has run well without being in the finish. Good through the line in the Group 1 last start and ready for a mile on a wet track.
Dangers: 3. Williamsburg is aided by the scratchings and probably the extra couple of days between runs after rounding them up from last in the Dulcify at Randwick. Loves the wet and is the logical danger. 5. Sharp ‘N’ Smart ran well in the Queensland winter including a fourth in the G1 JJ Atkins. Narrow victor first-up at 1400m in NZ a month ago. Has to be a query on a heavy track but if he handles it then he is right in this 6. Matcha Latte has some nice form around him having chased home Golden Mile in the Ming Dynasty last month. Trialled since, has form around Williamsburg on the heavy and another whose draw is helped by scratchings.
How to play it: Promitto WIN; Quinella 2 & 3. Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 9 – 5:30PM VINERY STALLIONS HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

14. Way To The Stars showed a lot of promise early winning his first two starts before some mixed results. He’s been gelded and both recent trial wins have been very handy. Not concerned by the gate, he has speed and if he produces his best he’ll be hard to catch.
Dangers: 19. Shadow Devil has been excellent in both runs back for seconds here over 1200m. Pattern against last time but still got within half a length. Back 100m but sure to be steaming home at the finish. 15. Feel The Knight did a big job from a wide gate in a Highway at Randwick a month ago and after Saturday’s race was called off he winds up here. More than capable if he gets the breaks and has each-way hopes. 4. Mars Mission has the wide gate but monitor the pattern as it may work in his favour. Won both trials since being gelded and while yet to see a heavy track is in the mix.
How to play it: Way To The Stars WIN; Trifecta 14/4,15,19/4,15,19. Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
