6AM – GRUNDY HOLD-UP AS PIES THREATEN TO HOLD HIM
It’s safe to say the deal for Brodie Grundy won’t be the first on Tuesday.
According to The Age, Melbourne has rejected a push by Collingwood to swap first round picks as part of the deal.
The Demons have already put pick 27 on the table for the two-time All Australian – plus they’d be taking on a hefty part of Grundy’s big money deal.
But the Magpies were looking to obtain the pick 13 Melbourne got for Luke Jackson, along with 27, sending Grundy and pick 16 back. But the Demons were not interested in allowing the Pies to upgrade their pick.
Collingwood is reportedly willing to abandon the trade entirely and keep Grundy, which would surely mean they cannot fit in Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell nor Gold Coast’s Brayden Fiorini.
Alternatively they could accept pick 27 if they don’t have to pay for so much of Grundy’s contract at Melbourne.
Meanwhile the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph reports Ivan Soldo should get to GWS from Richmond as one of the early deals on Tuesday.
But deals for Ollie Henry, Esava Ratugolea and Jacob Hopper are still to be sorted. Port Adelaide are still standing firm on their offer of pick 33 for the big Cat.
Seven’s Tom Browne remains optimistic that a deal can be reached on Bulldog Josh Dunkey.
Dunkley’s deal has been at a stalemate for a matter of days as the Dogs dig in over what’s a fair price.
After GWS received picks 12 and 19 for Tim Taranto to start the trade period, it’s reported the Bulldogs demanded a similar deal.
“It’s hard for the Dogs, they rejected arguably a better deal from Essendon for Dunkley a couple of years ago,” Browne said.
Lloyd Meek is expected to get to Hawthorn if the clubs can agree on whether he’s worth a second-rounder or a future third.
