Godolphin pulled a little bit of surprise on Monday by naming Ingratiating, a horse that traces his roots to the same family as Black Caviar, to complete The Everest field for 2022.
The four-year-old son of Frosted has this season returned to his brilliant juvenile form, where he was a Blue Diamond runner-up and third in a Golden Slipper, and his liking to get his toe in the ground proved the deciding factor.
“We had to look at what our best chance was, given the likely conditions, and Ingratiating handles a soft track and was our best option,” Godolphin Australia boss Vin Cox said.
“He won a heavy track at Caulfield first-up, and was a very good second to Paulele in the Schillaci Stakes on Saturday. His ratings are on an upward curve, and we think he is the horse that is going to surprise a lot of people come Saturday.”
