NRL Integrity Unit investigating ‘incident’ involving Warriors star at NSW licensed premises

The NRL Integrity Unit are investigating an alleged incident involving Warriors star Josh Curran at licensed premises in Port Macquarie on Sunday.

The incident reportedly took place at a pub on grand final night at the coastal town that’s about 400km north of Sydney.

“Warriors CEO Cameron George has confirmed knowledge of an alleged incident involving forward Josh Curran at a licensed premises over the weekend in Port Macquarie,” the club said in a statement.

“The club wishes to advise that the incident has been reported to the NRL Integrity Unit and will now await any further information from the NRL investigation.”

COWBOYS STAR CHARGED

Cowboys forward Luciano Leilua has been charged by police over alleged domestic violence offences involving a 26-year-old woman who is known to him.

Leilua was charged for domestic violence offences amid claims he assaulted a 26-year-old woman, before smashing her phone.

Officers went to the home in Harrington Park and arrested Leilua on Monday.

He was taken to Camden police station where he was charged with two domestic violence offences – common assault and damaging or destroying property.

“The North Queensland Cowboys have been made aware of an alleged incident regarding player Luciano Leilua, which has resulted in police charges,” the club said.

“The club is gathering further information and assisting the NRL Integrity Unit as well as providing support to all parties involved.

“Further comment will be made in due course.”

A NSW Police spokeswoman said police had gone to the home after receiving a call.

“Police were called to a home on Alexandra Crescent at Harrington Park about 1pm today (Monday 3 October 2022) after receiving reports about an alleged domestic violence incident,” the spokeswoman said.

“Officers from Narellan Police Area Command attended and were told a 26-year-old woman had allegedly been assaulted by a man known to her.

“It’s further alleged the man smashed her phone after assaulting her.

“A 26-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Camden Police Station where he was charged with common assault (DV); damage or destroy property (DV).

“He’s been given bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on 11 October 2022.”

Leilua began his three year $2 million contract with the Cowboys early after a mid-season move from the Tigers.

The charges could rule him out of representing Samoa at the Rugby League World Cup, which begins on October 15.
