Erebus land fresh Supercars sponsors, reveal new car number amid ugly Brodie Kostecki drama

Erebus Motorsport have unveiled their new-look Chevrolet Camaros for the 2024 Supercars season, featuring a new major backer following an exodus of previous sponsors in recent weeks.

An ugly – and ongoing – stoush with reigning champion Brodie Kostecki will see the 26-year-old sit out this weekend’s season-opening Bathurst 500 amid ongoing talks over a permanent split from the team where he claimed his maiden title.

The public rift, believed to follow a falling-out between Kostecki and team bosses including CEO Barry Ryan last year, could result in Kostecki sitting out the entire season unless he seals a release from Erebus.

It led to a number of sponsors deserting Erebus – including two of their biggest in the form of Coca-Cola and Shaw and Partners.

Now, long-time Australian motorsport investors TFH Hire Services (aka Temporary Fence Hire), an Australian-owned company, have stepped in to join Erebus as major backer, while the team also announced BIC (who manufacture everything from lighters to stationary) have signed a sponsorship deal.

The team unveiled a new livery on Thursday morning, with TFH’s yellow-and-red stylings added to a largely white Camaro visual.

Todd Hazelwood will drive Kostecki’s Erebus for the opening round – one of two brand-new chassis built by the team for the new season.

The team was widely criticised for having Hazelwood lap in the car at shakedown and pre-season testing, since the vehicle bore the #1 reserved for the champ.

But they have now revealed Hazelwood will bear the #99 for the season opener, given Supercars rules ensure only the reigning champion has the right to bear the number one.

Erebus’s new Team Principal, Brad Tremain, said: “The support of TFH coming into the Bathurst 500 has been invaluable and really lifted spirits.

“We’re stoked Brett [Thomas, CEO] and everyone at TFH Racing not only share our passion for the sport but believe we can go out there and continue where we left off in 2023.”

TFH Hire Services also is a widespread name in Australian motorsport, with the TFH Racing team having entries in Trans Am, Toyota 86s, TA2, Aussie Racing Cars, Speedway and Series X3 Queensland.

“We’re pumped to add Supercars to that list, especially to be working with the awesome crew at Erebus Motorsport,” said TFH CEO Brett Thomas.

“We can’t wait to support Jack, Todd, and the whole team here at the Mountain as they show Supercars fans they’re here to race.”

“We’re hoping this is just the start of a long and successful partnership,” he added.

“The cars look mega and we can’t wait to get both Jack [le Brocq] and Todd out there on track.”
