Brodie Grundy “isn’t far behind” Adam Treloar’s level of dissatisfaction of being traded as the star Collingwood ruckman’s move to Melbourne looms, according to SEN’s Sam Edmund.
Treloar was sensationally dealt away from the Magpies in 2020 against his will in a messy exit as part of the club’s fire sale due to salary cap pressure, with Collingwood still paying $1.5 million his salary to play at the Western Bulldogs.
While Collingwood isn’t as desperate as it was two years ago to shed funds, it’s been actively shopping Grundy in recent months to off-load the dual All-Australian’s lucrative salary – contracted until 2025 on a deal worth around $1 million per season – although it’ll still need to contribute towards it.

And Edmund revealed Grundy, 28, has been left less than impressed with the turn of events that’ll likely see him depart the AIA Centre.
“If Adam Treloar was 10 out of 10 on the anger scale with his departure, this isn’t that far behind from my understanding,” Edmund said on SEN’s Crunch Time.
“Brodie Grundy has never been scared to speak his mind and I just wonder if, when it’s all said and done, he might express dissatisfaction over how it’s all played out.
“At the end of the day, he wanted to stay at Collingwood … I hope he’ll paint a picture for us when he does get to Melbourne on the other side.”
SEN broadcaster Gerard Whateley highlighted that it was a “club inspired move”.
“I think he (Grundy) has every right to make sure everyone in footy totally understands that,” he said.
Grundy’s move to the Demons comes as the club looks to replace the impending void left by departing young gun Luke Jackson, who’s requested a trade to one of the Western Australian sides.
There’s been some queries around how Grundy would fit into Melbourne’s side and play alongside six-time All-Australian ruckman Max Gawn, and whether the Demons should instead target a key forward to address their struggles in attack.
But Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin noted on Fox Footy’s AFL 360 last week the club had been planning out what bringing another established ruckman into the side would look like and was confident it’d work for the 2021 premiers.
Edmund reports Grundy’s trade to Melbourne “will happen”.
“It’d take something extraordinary for it not to, because all the pieces are just about in place,” he said.
“There won’t be an announcement or a nomination from Grundy, he doesn’t have to do that.
“But the trade will happen and there’ll be a sizeable contribution from the Collingwood end – five years to run at a million dollars a season.”
