20 games, one win: Blues great ‘completely out of his depth’ as ‘embarrassing’ Chelsea savaged

Frank Lampard continues to soil whatever’s left of his managerial reputation as Chelsea slumped to a 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday morning.

The Blues were chasing the game from the 18th minute and were down 3-0 at half-time before winger Noni Madueke ensured Arsenal wouldn’t keep a clean sheet at the Emirates.

Aside from Madueke’s second-half strike, it was bleak viewing for Chelsea fans as Lampard oversaw a lifeless display from his troops.

Gunners fans lapped up every second of it though and sang songs like “super Frankie Lampard” and “Frank Lampard, we want you to stay”.

The defeat at Arsenal also made it six losses in as many games for Lampard since he took charge as interim Chelsea boss on April 6.

Four of those came in the Premier League while the other two losses were at the hands of European giants Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

But that’s just a snapshot of Lampard’s horrendous record.

From the 44-year-old’s last 20 Premier League games as the former Everton and now Chelsea interim boss, he has lost 17, drawn twice and won just once.

That equates to a five per cent win ratio.

Making matters worse is Chelsea’s toothless attacking displays under Lampard in his second spell.

Madueke’s goal against Arsenal was just the second goal Chelsea had scored under Lampard in all competitions.

Lampard also handed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a start up front against his former side, but the Gabon international failed to fire and had just nine touches the entire game, four of which came from the kick-off.

Aubameyang was subsequently hooked off the field at half-time.

Unsurprisingly, several football pundits have torn the former England star and Chelsea to shreds over their meek displays.

“Absolutely shocking from Chelsea,” Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“This club is an absolute mess. This could get an awful lot worse unfortunately for Lampard, his staff and supporters.

“It’s embarrassing from Chelsea. It’s like five-a-side. Three of them sat on their backsides. It sums Chelsea’s season up.

“To see how far they’ve fallen in these last 12 months is astonishing.”

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara even went as far as saying he’d have a new manager in by the morning if he could.

“Enough’s enough now,” O’Hara said on talkSPORT.

“You’ve spent £600m and you’re getting performances like that? Going to spend your money to watch that absolute nonsense? Garbage from all over the park, you look like a Championship team put together.

“Frank Lampard’s completely out of his depth. I’d get rid of him.”

Even Socceroos great Mark Schwarzer couldn’t help but take aim at what Chelsea has become under Lampard.

“I have to say, Chelsea, absolutely all over the place defending,” Schwarzer told the BBC.

“You see the Chelsea players, they’re all ball-watching, nobody’s defending.”

With five games to go in their Premier League season, the full-time whistle on the final day can’t come soon enough for Chelsea fans.

Eliminated from the Champions League and too far off a European spot in the English top flight, the Blues only have pride to play for.

But with their three final games of the season coming against Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle, they might not have any pride left when it’s all said and done.
